If you're going to have a high-profile film label to distribute Asian action films, who better to advise you than Quentin Tarantino? Bob and Harvey Weinstien announced the creation of their Dragon Dynasty film label earlier this week in at the Cannes International Film Market, and now they say Tarantino will actively work with the company in all aspects of activity.
The new company already has a slate of releases on tap, including Born to Fight, Ong Bak 2, Seven Swords and Dragon Squad. Dragon Dynasty will also handle distribution of a library of films from the Shaw brothers, films they acquired during their term at Miramax; a trove that came with them when they left Disney.
Dragon Dynasty will also be a heavy presence in DVD. Two platinum edition releases are already in the works, Tai Chi Master and Fist of Legend, starring Jet Li.
Quentin Tarantino has long been an advocate of Asian cinema. He's produced American releases of some major Asian titles, and Asian martial arts and other elements of that genre have heavily influenced his own films.
